      Being a congressional representative is a job that comes with great responsibility and hard work. To be a congressional representative means that a person has been chosen to be a congress man or woman to be in charge of a specific area or district. Congressional representatives have responsibilities such as introducing bills, solve problems involving the people in the district they serve and serve on different committees. The district in which I live has a postal code of 71052. The representative for this particular district is congressman Mike Johnson. 

Mike Johnson is a husband, father of four, and attorney who has used his life and career to fight for freedoms and traditional values that concern the people of Louisiana. He is the oldest son of a Shreveport firefighter who was born and disabled while on duty, so Mike is no stranger to hard work. In 1998 he attended Louisiana State University in which he earned his Juris Doctorate’s Degree from the Paul M. Herbert Law Center. Here he was chosen to be a member of the Moot Court Board and National Moot Court Team. He was also able to serve as the President of the Christian Legal Society. Previously though in 1995, he got his undergraduates degree in Business Administration where he had leadership positions in organizations such as Leadership LSU, Order of Omega Honor Society, Kappa Sigma Fraternity and LSU In fraternity Council.  

With two decades of being involved with Constitutional law and having it under his belt, it’s a no brainer that Mike would serve on the House Judiciary Committee and in addition to doing so he top in his Republican class for its Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties. Mike Johnson has taken on many cases in which he fought for basic freedoms, and he has defended many congress and government officials.  Mike also serves on the House Armed Services Committee in which he represents groups such as the Barksdale Air Force Base, the Air Force Global Strike Command, Fort Polk, the Army’s Joint Readiness Training Center, Louisiana National Guard’s Camp Minden Training Site, and other Military assets.  

As a congressional representative, Mike Johnson identifies as a Republican, and he serves Louisiana’s fourth district. He represents around 760,000 residents in the district that he serves, which is 16 parishes in the northwest and western regions of Louisiana. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on December 10, 2016. He won the election by the largest margin of victory in his region and that had not happened in more than fifty years. Currently, Mike is serving his fourth term in congress. 

Throughout his congressional career, Mike Johnson has achieved much. In January 2021, Mike was chosen to serve as vice chairman of the House Republican Conference which is one of the seven positions of leadership that Republicans can have in the House of Representatives. In November 2022, Mike was again unanimously elected to serve as vice chairman of House Republicans in the 118th congress in which he helps his Republican colleagues fight for principles and polices that are conservative. Mike is also acting Deputy Whip for the 118th congress in which he carries out the Republican agenda. Previously, he served as chairman of the Republican Study Committee which is the largest conservative group in congress also referred to as “the intellectual arsenal of conservatism in the house. 

Mike firmly established his reputation as a full conservative back in the Louisiana Legislature around February 2015 to January 2017. He was elected to serve on the Louisiana Legislature twice without any objections and was given the chance to be Vice Chairmen of the House Judiciary Committee and to the Select Committee on Leadership. He has even had the opportunity to serve as legislator in both the state and national capital. He has received many awards from the many organizations and groups that he is involved with. Mike has had many jobs throughout his life and career all the way from college professor, talk radio host, columnist, media spokesperson, law seminar instructor, and board member; although all these roles are important perhaps his has made the most difference by being a congressional representative. Today, Mike, along with his wife and children reside in Bossier Parish where he represents himself not only as a family man but also as one that lives and reflects the conservative lifestyle and the people that share his vision.
